Good Reading  Mar 15, 2007
Good and I am able to understand this text perfectly. Real informative and helpful

Archealogical Study Bible  Feb 24, 2007
This is an excellent first effort introducing a new paradigm in study Bibles. This Bible is for serious students who desire a Bible study based on geographics, artifacts, history and archealogical discoveries past, present and future. This Bible is not for new Bible readers or those who wish a study for personal application. It is a Bible for academic pursuit.

But What about the Gospel of Thomas...  Feb 6, 2007
I bought this Bible before it was available to the public through my seminary last year at Gordon-Conwell and it is a great study Bible. I am obviously biased in that observation, but what you won't read in descriptions is that the issues addressed in each section are written by world-class Bible scholars who know their stuff. These guys address key concerns like "Can John's Gospel be Trusted" and in doing so are not on a personal moral vendetta, like notes in other translations.
While at first I wasn't a big fan of the choice of the NIV, it does provide balance in interpretation and has been trusted internationally for 40 years.
One of my favorite features is that the articles are not subjective interpretations of biblical accounts. They are written with a tone of confidence about the historical evidence and present evidence for and against conclusions that they may make. Further, if there isn't much evidence for a specific conclusion, they will convey that vital information so that when there is something that is overwhelmingly clear, they can endorse it accordingly. They are not trying to convince readers to change their lifestyle behaviors. They are trying to give people access into the world that existed then, so that they may not unknowingly thrust their societal interpretations into the text and so the original intent of the text may be allowed to speak.
At a time when millennia-old issues, like Gnosticism and questioning of the canon, are rearing their ugly head, it is nice to have balanced, objective articles that put forth the evidence that exists.
The Bible is a historical book that in post-modernity has been relegated as unreliable, but this text reveals the evidence that shows remarkable consistency in a text that took over 1500 years to compile.
If you want a Bible that doesn't insult your intelligence, then this might be the one for you.

Great Study Bible!  Feb 1, 2007
This Bible is a wonderful collection of historical facts and explanations mixed into the appropriate pages of the NIV Bible. Lots of photographs and sidebars on every other page or so that explain cultural and historical facts to bring God's Word alive and help clarify its meaning. Great reference text for those interested in what happened, when it happened, and why. Even the pages are made to look ancient, with some kind of wrinkled effect printed around the border.

All in all a great study Bible that is a joy to read, but with so much info packed into this big volume the print is a little small, which is the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. I got the leather cover which is nice, but promptly bought a Bible cover to put it in to protect the gold-edged pages, so I'm not sure if leather is necessary, but it looks really sharp when you take it out and show it off. I keep it handy and read a little bit every single day.

Awesome Bible  Jan 21, 2007
I bought this Bible for my wife, she saw it months before Christmas and wanted it, so I purchased it for her Christmas present. She loves it, and I use it at Church as well. It just gives you an up close & more personal look into Biblical times. We love the pictures as well. A preacher friend of mine borrowed the cd and just loved it, said that he will have to purchase the Bible as well.
