Item Description... Overview "Downhome reflections of history's most colorful men and women."
(author Don Reid is the lead singer of the Statler Brothers)
This book is about some folks in the Bible you probably have read or heard about. But instead of the dusty, dry, old characters that we tend to think of them as, they are fashioned into something that will entertain as well as inform.
These chapters are more than a thumbnail sketch but not necessarily in-depth studies. if you're a Bible scholar, you may read a chapter and refresh your memory. If you're an average churchgoer, you may find a few new, interesting facts you missed the last time his or her name came up. And if you're a complete novice, then dig in because you have some fun stuff to catch up on. These guys were human and saintly and weak and strong and good and evil and right and wrong and every other set of opposites you can think of. These were real people and their stories never get old.
Publishers Description With a gift for telling a story in a factual but folksy manner, Don Reid reflects on the lives of biblical people such as Abraham, Joseph, Esther and John the Baptist. Don lets us see a little bit of ourselves in the lives of these men and women and when you get down to it, they were not super-humans; they were just folks like you and me.

 | The Bible's most famous and infamous figures Nov 5, 2002 |
| Heroes And Outlaws Of The Bible: Downhome Reflections Of History's Most Colorful Men And Women by Presbyterian Elder and Sunday School Teacher Don Reid (who is also an original member of the country music signing group the Statler Brothers for nearly forty years) is an amazing and revealing look at the Bible's most famous and infamous figures. Presenting Biblical stories in plain layman's terms, Heroes And Outlaws of the Bible is an eminently readable yet utterly fascinating retelling of timeless struggles. As entertaining as it is informative, Heroes And Outlaws Of The Bible is very highly recommended reading. | | | | Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible Oct 14, 2002 |
| I love this book!! It is so interesting. I learned so many exciting facts about these Bible characters and about the Bible, (I can't wait until we study one of these people in Sunday School) It was so inspiring for me and sent me back to the Bible to reread these accounts again, this time with greater interest and insight into these characters, the greatness of God and the privilege of salvation. It also sent me into myself to take a good look at me. When I was finished reading the book I didn't have that usual let down feeling, I just read it again. It is strange how much I missed the first time. It is not a very long book but it is packed full of wonderful reading. I recommend this book for anyone anytime. It is a book that will be read over and over. | | | | Most enjoyable and enlightening Jul 31, 2002 |
| I loved this book because it relates some great stories in a highly entertaining, easy to read fashion (the author has a great sense of humor) without ever being "preachy" or "heavy-handed". This writing style makes it very easy to absorb (and appreciate) the very important points being made by the author. I can see this book appealing to those just starting to read the Bible as well as those who are already students of the Bible. Don Reid does an exceptional job of making the people of the Bible seem just like you or me, which makes relating to them that much more special. | | | Write your own review about Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible: Down Home Reflections of History's Most Colorful Men and Women
