this item was as ordered, as described; well packed; fast delivery; and I would definitely purchase again from this seller.

worthwhile  Dec 3, 2005
This is a delightful book to have in a collection of Bible study resources. It is a brief survey of interesting aspects of life in Biblical times with full page illustrations. The drawings are a powerful tool for comprehending a land and lifestyle that is foriegn to us and helps set the scenes of the Bible with context.

The text of the book is brief, but informative. The first chapter of the book describing the political backround of the gospels is first rate; the best summary I've ever read on this complicated subject. Sorting out the political dynamics within Judea as well as the Roman political intrigues, and how they clash is the only way to fully understand the gospel.

This book is worthwhile because it has something for everybody. You could use it to teach young kids as well as adults, and it is also an enjoyable read.

Stellar resource  Aug 23, 2005
The Daily Life at the Time of Jesus was an excellent resource for our VBS. It had excellent diagrams that helped us set up our classrooms. It also has detailed descriptions of life around AD 4 - 30. The pictures were bright and colorful and appealed to the kids. I was extremely excited when I received it because I knew it would be a great teaching tool for years to come.

Good but Disappointing  May 10, 2004
First off, let me say that I thought this was a picture book along the lines of the DK Pub. books that would be appropriate for 1st through 6th grades. I bought this for my 5yo and there is so much to read...it makes it difficult to answer his questions without taking more time than he has patience for to read and retranslate to his level. The author does have some sort of theology and it isn't in line with mine (Reformed Protestant). There is a timeline in the beginning using the BCE/CE (Before the Christian Era/Christian Era) format instead of BC/AD (Before Christ/Anno Domini) one. Why write a book about Bible times but use abbreviations I've only seen in Jewish or secular (i.e. Non-Christian)history books? There is also an inset in the marriage section about divorce that mentions the two extremes of the day (as opposed to what *most* people were doing, which I think is the point of the book). I am not reading that to my kid!
Bottom line: while it is informative and has many interesting illustrations, I don't think I would've spent the money on this book if I had another chance.

Beautifully Informative- Alive with facts of interest  May 5, 2001
This is far more than it seems by this this site.com listing, I feel that it is mis-classed as a children's book and should be considered by all ages. The wealth of information about the way of life during the days of Jesus brings the whole Bible alive!! Excellent family reading!
