Publishers Description
Lori Wick's bestselling English Garden series (more than 720,000 copies sold) is filled with engaging characters and stories. Now with fresh, new covers, each of the four books in the series will hold a favorite spot on the nightstand or bookshelf of any reader who loves a great romance. "The Rescue, "book two in the series, is set in 1811 England. When Anne Gardiner slips from a ladder into the arms of a stranger, her father, Colonel Gardiner, deems the innocent embrace cause for immediate marriage. Weston eventually sees that the "marriage" was performed for the Colonel's sake and that Anne had no choice. When he learns that she's sacrificed her own reputation to protect his name, Weston finds himself drawn to Anne. But will these two guarded people give love a chance? And can they trust God enough to step into a new, real relationship?

 | Wow! Jan 10, 2006 |
| A bit heavy, sad, but works out to make it a good read. The relationship between the main characters goes from strained, to good, to painful, and back to where God wanted it from the start. It's a wonderfully written book. | | | | Really enjoyable! Nov 17, 2005 |
I am a big fan of stories from this era, and I really enjoyed all four books in this series. I live in reality... I don't need a story to further dwell on that. I enjoy that Lori's books are so ideal, so perfect. I don't mind that the characters aren't "believeable" as some have criticized. That's exactly why I read them! It's fun to escape. And yet in the story there are neat twists and turns. They aren't completey predictable. I recommend this book highly. And I enjoy that the characters you meet as the series goes along are main characters in later books. That is a very neat aspect. I do recommend reading the books in order. I skipped this one book 2 because I didn't own it and read it last. I wish I hadn't. It isn't necessary, but I think you miss out when those characters pop up in the later books. The story line in this one is really neat. I enjoyed it a lot.

| I thought that "The Rescue" was an entertaining book. It mixes humor with Godly advice. As the story unfolds, it gets better page by page. I haven't read the first book of the English Garden series, but I hope that I will be able to. Although I enjoyed this book, I don't think it was the best book I've read by Lori Wick. My favorite book she has written is "Sophie's Heart". I enjoy reading Christian romance books and Lori Wick is one of my favorite authors. | | | | Wonderful Apr 15, 2004 |
This is one of those books that as soon as you pick it up you won't put it down until you've turned the last page. You don't have to wait long until you fall completely in love with both Anne and Weston. Like a true English gentleman, Weston offers to marry Anne after he finds out that because of his rash actions Anne's reputation has suffered. I eagerly anticipated each new development in their marriage. I loved all of the English Garden Series, but this one is by far my favorite!! | | | | Not so sure of this book Feb 11, 2004 |
| Well, I really cannot say that I have finished reading the book. I will have to do so. But, I do have to say that I was a bit dissapointed. Personally, I believe that Wick's best work is in a historical western setting. This book seems nice, but I can't help but be cynical about the environment. The gossipers are believeable, but not the christian people. How could there be so many? If so, their views of christianity are different that what ours are. Since when does the aristocracy care about God on a personal level? Those who were religious where strict in their discipline. Plus, a pastor? They had vicars back then. I find it a bit historically inacurate. I suppose I should not criticize, I mean after all, it is fiction. What can I expect right? I do have to say that I like Wick, but not so much in this series. I'll have to read more to form an exact opinion. | | | Write your own review about The Rescue (The English Garden Series #2)
