Outline Much like their brethren Mercy Me, Casting Crowns was thrust into the limelight from a worship band beginning. With steady chops honed from hundreds of shows/services a year and a simple, straight-ahead rock style, the Florida-based band found themselves on top of the charts thanks to the success of massive singles "Who Am I?" and "The Voice of Truth" from its self-titled debut (2003). Lifesong is a sensible sophomore follow-up that shows the band expanding its musical creativity while lyrically remaining true to the cause. There's a common thread of humility throughout as front man Mark Hall sings of the disenfranchised ("Does Anybody Hear Her"), the heartbroken ("Praise You in This Storm"), and the remorseful ("Prodigal"). Hall even calls outside for songwriting help from the brilliant Nichole Nordeman in "Stained Glass Masquerade," a cautionary warning about church hypocrisy in the face of keeping it real. The radio-friendly, U2- ish "Lifesong" proves a savvy book-end to the penitent closer "And Now My Lifesong Sings." Both evoke strong messages that worship is all about how one lives a life and not what kind of songs they may sing. Lifesong is an impressive effort for a band that knows its strengths and how to play to them. --Michael Lyttle

this CD is so inspirational. I can really hear God's voice in the songs. very touching and thought provoking! A MUST BUY!!!!!
This is what worship is all about!!! Mar 1, 2007
The music and melody is so smoothe and it doesn't chink around with much change in its tune. They know how to praise. Very easy listening. I am a very happy consumer.
The one song that really stuck out to me was track four; describing that even though we go to church we put on a face to show everyone that everything is 'alright' in our worlds even though things might not be perfect. You might be going through a hard time in your life and nobody knows it because everyone else has their face on and it encourages you to brighten up a little, even though you know it'll take more than a smile to get you out of the mess you're dealing with at home, or at work, or where ever. It made me think that no, nobody has their life really 'in control' and thats what God's dependence is all about. That's why we count on him for everything we need help with. The song spoke volumes; It still does every time I listen to it.
My all-time favorite band! Mar 1, 2007
Mark Hall's songwriting is incredible!!! All of the songs that he writes come from a very personal need to tell a story or portray a message...these are NOT generic songs that sound like every other Christian song. Mix that with a throaty, passionate, pitch-perfect voice, and what more can I say? Not only that, but Mark walks the walk. He's my son's youth pastor, and he not only cares about each and every student, but he also challenges them to be the best that they can be...and does his best to set the example without pretending to be "super Christian guy" that never struggles with setbacks.
My favorite songs on this album are: Set Me Free (must be listened to very LOUDLY...the instrumentals are out of this world. This is the story of Legion from Mark 5: 1-20. [...].) Prodigal (the story of the prodigal son from the son's point of view...I DIG the Spanish guitar) And Now My Lifesong Sings (simple and melodic; the best vocal on the album)
I have bought this CD so many times, for gifts, it is so good. I may have to buy yet another one because mine is starting to skip, but it's worth it. You won't be disappointed!

What can I say, except Stupendous!!! They (Casting Crowns) have outdone themselves AGAIN!! I can't get enough of their songs, sounds, and messages in their songs. Absolutely Amazing!!!
Amazing CD Jan 16, 2007
I bought this cd to get "Praise You In This Storm". It is still my favorite. "Lifesong" was the only other song that I had previously heard. I was blown away by the wonderful music that was to follow. We all know the person in "Does Anybody Hear Her". How many times have I wondered what to do or say ("Love them Like Jesus"). As with so many of us, I struggle with am I worthy, so Prodigal was written with me in mind. Finally "While You Were Sleeping" tells us how much history does repeat itself. Awesome music and lyrics.
