Reviews - What do our customers think?
Making a difference in the world around you!  Mar 29, 2007
I love the underlying premise upon which this book is built - that it is better to go out and make a difference in the world than sit back and complain that things just aren't going well. While my passion is the public policy arena, Briner's is the arena of art, journalism and media. Recognizing the cultural importance of this arena, Briner challenges people to see the opportunities to make a difference and to do things better. He frames the issue using the Biblical reference to followers of Christ being the salt and light - and he notes that salt is used to prevent decay and is completely worthless if left in the saltshaker! Following this line of reasoning, Briner wonders where all the Christians are in the culture today - where's the salt?

Briner focuses the reader on four primary areas of cultural influence: movies, TV, literature and the visual arts. He examines the typical Christian response to each area and concludes that protesting and boycotting bad programming or material is far less effective than producing good programming and material. Briner also calls out the Christian colleges and asks why our educational system isn't preparing young men and women to enter the mission fields of New York and Hollywood. When will the church realize it's mandate to transform culture and get serious about actually doing it seems to be the theme running through Roaring Lambs.

The book is a very good challenge to the traditional isolationist thinking of far too many Christians today. Briner seeks to engage the culture for Christ and makes a very good case for engagement in the areas of the arts. I hope that many Christians read, take to heart, and put into action the thoughts of Briner - far too many Christians are sitting on the sidelines either cheering or complaining, but not making a difference on the field of life.

A call to action!   Jan 21, 2007
I have a great amount of respect for Bob Briner and the way in which he brought such a problem to light. It's amazing how many churches and other religious institutions focus their attentions on individuals headed for "ministry." I fully agree with the author's observation that the other Christians, the ones in the so-called "real world," are just as important but not as oft-trained.

This book seeks to encourage Christians from every field and industry to live out loud for the greater cause. It covers many fields -- quite well, I might add. My only gripe is that at some points, the writing style felt a little slow. In the middle of certain chapters, I felt myself flipping ahead to see how many pages I had left before the next section began. All in all, though, I wouldn't trade in the experience of reading this book. It contains so many vital truths and observations that it is a book not to be passed by.

Excellent Book  Jan 11, 2007
This book will widen your horizons regarding what it means to interface the culture as a Christian.

a great manifesto  Nov 5, 2006
Ever felt that the more succesfull you where in business the more far away from the church you felt? Ever felt that your place in the kingdom of God was outside the four walls of the church really making an impact on the world? Well if so, I strongly recomend this book. A great manifesto about how christians should impact the world.

This Classic Still Speaks The Truth  Aug 5, 2005
I just finished reading Roaring Lambs for the first time, and was amazed how this book (written in 1993) still is relevant to Christians today. Briner calls out for each of us to embrace Jesus' command to be the salt of the earth. How? By doing more than simply criticizing the world. Too many of us have lost our saltiness. We are to be in the world, providing a God-honoring message to all we meet in every area of our lives. We need to shape our culture by acting as a purifying agent to hinder the spread of evil. To do this we must be in our community - to penetrate every area of society. Stay awake. Be alert. Be a roaring lamb!!
