Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Just didn't care for this one. May 24, 2010 |
I was very excited for the opportunity to review this Bible Man DVD as I had heard wonderful things about this series of DVD's. I was however, a bit disappointed. While the DVD contains a wonderful message it is very poorly put together in my opionion. In fact, it felt as if we were watching a home video rather than an actual production that cost money to make and as a result, it seemed to sadly to take away from the wonderful message that was being presented. If you too have heard wonderful things about the Bible Man DVD's and are interested in them for your children, then I would suggest checking out some of the older ones as it is my understanding that they are different than this newer release.
*Thank you to Thomas Nelson/Booksneeze for the opportunity to review this DVD. We were sent this DVD for free in exchange for our honest review.
| | | | amazing message, only wish it were animated May 18, 2010 |
| When we first received the dvd I was a bit discouraged... it seemed so cheesy. The dvd is a life action and executed in a very amateurish manner. HOWEVER... the message behind the adventure is just awesome~! They use the Word as their shield and sword. My boys LOVE this and have really absorbed the biblical messages and their life applications. I only WISH it were animated - it would easily be a 5 star rating. I received this dvd as part of the blogger reviewer network and am providing my honest, open opinion. | | | | Bibleman DVD - My grandson loved it! May 14, 2010 |
I was thrilled to get a chance to review the Bibleman -Combating The Commandant of Confusion DVD courtesy of Thomas Nelson Publishers. As a book reviewer for them, a free copy was sent my way in return for my honest review.
I found the DVD not only cheesy, but also poorly put together. As a live performance, it seemed more like a home video than a professionally recorded program. The actors' interactions were more geared toward the audience than the story line itself. This took away from what might have been received as a great message for 6 to 10 year olds.
The story was about swinging the swords and seemed like a real-life attempt to mimic the WII video game of Star Wars - in some ways - than it did a message-laden Christian story about the battle of good winning over evil.
That being said, my 6-year-old grandson was enthralled while it was on. At one point, I started to switch the movie off because dinner was ready, and he protested immediately that the movie was not over.
Considering his outburst, perhaps it should be watched with the attitude of the age group for whom it is meant instead of as an adult expecting a polished video. If my grandson's reaction is any indication, it must serve up a home run for the kids. That's the point - to get them excited about the concept of good conquering evil.
Because of my grandson's reaction, I will give this Thomas Nelson video two thumbs up.
| | | | Entertaining and educational adventure for the whole family. May 6, 2010 |
The Bibleman Powersource's DVD Episode "Combating the Commandant of Confusion," (VHCHXX 2375541439) is an entertaining and educational adventure for the whole family. The language and special effects are appropriate for children between 6 to 10 years old.
In this episode Bibleman and his team must protect their most powerful secret weapon from being stolen and/or destroyed by enemy forces. After the Bible Adventure Training Academy's computer sends an "Intruder Alert" warning message, Bibleman and his team leave the control room and start searching the academy."Chaos" seizes this opportunity and steals their most powerful weapon with the intention of using its mighty power against them. He also causes some damage to their computer system.
Bibleman uses a light sword and quotes scriptures to gather strength and power to defend himself against the attacks of his enemies, Chaos and the Commander of Confusion.
The Commander of Confussion's unique speech is funny and confusing, but his side kick and translator, Chaos, helps the audience to understand their wicked plans.
Since this is a live performance recording, young children will be delightfully engaged with the kids in the audience as they assist Bibleman and his team to solve the case. The audience also encourages Bibleman when it appears that he is loosing the battle.
I highly recommend this DVD to parents looking for a family movie with good role model heroes who gather their strength from the Word of God.

Bibleman first came out when I was a young teen. It was never a wildly popular show with me because it seemed like second rate acting, sometimes the scenes seemed awkward. Having a live show makes it even worse, in my opinion. With that said, the one thing I love about Bibleman is the CLEAR message that we overcome evil with the Word of God and prayer. Most Christian kids' shows don't deliver this message so clearly.
I was surprised to see that both of my boys (2 and 4) were captivated with the show when I turned it on and they have watched it several times since. My 4yo goes around singing the Bibleman song now :) I think Bibleman is great for ages two through, possibly eight; but after that the kids will probably notice that the acting is a little stunted and the fight scenes are very...fake.
If you do decide to invest in a Bibleman Adventure (and I think you should!) pick up one that is not a live adventure. The acting won't drive you as crazy :)
